We are THRILLED to announce Bartow High School has been selected as 10News' School of the Week powered by Duke Energy Florida. We will be featured in the morning newscast beginning at 5:30 a.m. Friday September 23. Throughout the 6 a.m. hour, 10News will have a reporter LIVE at our school focusing on what's great about being a Yellow Jacket! The new segment showcases the great things BHS/IB/SA students, teachers and staff are involved in and we're excited to show off what makes Bartow High School one of the best. In addition to the stories that will air in the morning newscast on Friday, a 10News anchor will visit the campus to meet with our students. We have a huge week! Please go to the website and sign up for concessions positions. We are running concession for the Powder-Puff game tonight, we are running concessions for the JV game that is this Thursday and for the home game against Fort Meade. Students can volunteer with concessions for the Powder-Puff game and the JV game. We need these opportunities to be successful considering we lost a lot of money with the rain out last week! Please push your students to practice and make sure they are at rehearsal. We have our first competition in two weeks and we have a long way to go to be ready. I can not make the band successful if the students are not there.
The chocolate sale is over this Friday! Get your chocolate sold!!! Students can apply $30 per box sold towards their band fees. This will help mom and dad from spending money out of pocket The section that sales the most chocolate will win a 5 lb bar of chocolate (that’s one for the section to share) and there are individual awards for the top three student sellers. We will be kicking off the Fan-Cloth fundraiser on Thursday the 29th at 7:00pm. Please see the schedule below. Remember, students with perfect attendance at all rehearsals will receive a reward at the end of the year. Thank you for all that you do to support the Bartow High School Band! Monday: Open Tuesday: Band Practice 3:00pm-5:30pm (if it is raining, we will practice in the auditorium). Powder-Puff football game begins at 6:30pm. We are running concessions and need parent help!! We will need parents ready to start set up at 5:00pm or as soon as you can arrive. The drum-line is playing at the bonfire after the game. We have donated last year’s props (bumpers) for the fire wood. Please go and pay your respects! J Wednesday: Jazz Band Rehearsal from 2:30-4:00. Thursday: Band Practice 3:00pm-5:30pm (if it is raining, we will practice in the auditorium). Drum-Line and Guard Sectionals. JV football game concessions… Please sign up on the website for a position! Friday School Day: 97 country 6:00am (Sax Trio) Morning pep-rally 5:30am (full band) Regular/afternoon pep-rally Friday Night: Football home game verses Fort Meade (Home coming). This is going to be a huge game!!$$$ Weneed to have lots of help in the concession stand! Band will be in full uniform. Band is required to wear this year’s Champions spirit shirt and the spirit uniform when you arrive. Winds and percussion must bring tall black socks. If you have ankle socks or white socks, you will be sent home. Dancers will arrive in full uniform and put on make-up when you get here. Students may bring $3.00 for pizza that will be served at 4:00pm. Pizza money must be turned in before the school day is out or prior to 2:30pm. All band members report at 5:15pm.Again we will be in full uniform! That means you will wear your band hats in the game therefore I will not tolerate any Homecoming hair issues!! The dance is on Saturday. Please consider donating a ream of paper to the band office. Charms has been updated in reference to uniform rental fees, dry cleaning fees, instrument rental fees, and operation fees. Spirt uniform and items given to the students will be updated shortly. Because of the Powder puff football game and homecoming events on Tuesday we will be practicing from 3;00pm -5:30pm and we will have our same Thursday practice time.
Sorry, for getting this out late but I have included information for next week as well. We do have a game this Friday which is also Middle School Band night. We will need to have plenty of parent volunteers for concessions and helping the middle school students have a great night. Please make sure we have 100% attendance at all practices! Our first competition is October 1st and we need every minute of rehearsal to be ready. When a student misses practice we have to reteach the material which slows down progress. Please be at practice!!!
Please keep working on the World’s Finest Chocolate sale so we can hit our goal of 440 boxes sold. The sale will end next Friday. Students can apply $30 per box sold towards their band fees. This will help mom and dad from spending money out of pocket. Students can turn in what they have sold but only when they have sold an entire box. With this being said, students should have at least paid for sprit uniforms, marching dry cleaning, and uniform rental. I have attached the band fees. We will be starting the Fan-Fan-cloth fundraiser as soon as we conclude of the chocolate sale which can be applied to the rest of the marching band fees. We will sign up for busses this Friday during the school day after the winning section has signed up. The leadership of Amy and Robbie, along with a great team of parents in the concession stands this past Friday, hit a home run!! Thank you to the field crew, uniform moms, and dancer moms for your work behind the scenes to get them ready for their first game. I am certainly proud of the band for two “A” level rehearsals last week which led to a solid first performance. We have a J.V. game this Thursday and we will need help in the concession stand. Please remember that we have our Band Parent Night tomorrow evening starting at 7:00pm. Because we will be short on time, we will provide pizza for the band at no cost. As soon as we finish eating we will start getting into uniform. Winds and percussion will need to wear black socks and the old band shirt if you have one. If not just bring athletic shorts that will be comfortable under the uniform and a t-shirt. Parents, it is really important that you attend Band Parent Night! DON’T FORGET!!!! Our Pepsi Wars have begun for this year! Our first official game is THIS FRIDAY and we need to have sodas for the fans to purchase! Every student needs to bring in one or more of the following Pepsi products ASAP: -Pepsi -Diet Pepsi -Sierra Mist -Mountain Dew -Dr. Pepper -16 oz. bottles of water These are the products we will be selling in our concession stand to help raise money for the program and keep your fees lower! The section that brings in the most products will get to choose their bus FIRST!!!! Low Brass won last year and are ready to defend their bus choice! Who will defeat them??????? The Concession stand operation was amazing and the drum-line did a great job in the stands at the game. Please be aware of the events this week. We have a tremendous amount to accomplish to be ready for Friday. Our calendar for the year is posted on the Charms website (see information below to log in). At the high school level, it is the student’s responsibility to keep Mom and Dad plugged in but I will do everything possible to keep you informed.

What will you learn at this free clinic? - How to prepare for the 2016 Florida Bandmasters Association All-State Concert Bands - grades: 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12. - FSC instrumental faculty will offer clinics on each of the music grade levels. - Faculty will focus on scales, tone production, exercise preparation, sight-reading and audition readiness. - What to bring? Instruments and all-state music. Percussionist will not need to bring instruments, just sticks, mallets and music.
